El acercamiento de revista Pulsart con la música nos ha llevado a conocer grandes personalidades, y es un enorme placer, ser el medio por el cual podamos presentar a figuras como Luciano Ruotolo; pianista originario de Napoles, Italia y con una trayectoria musical impecable. Aquí un poco de él y de notable carrera que sin duda seguiremos.

Here is a bit of him and a remarkable career that we will certainly follow.

Cuéntanos sobre ti, queremos conocerte. ¿Cómo empiezas en la música? ¿De dónde eres?

Es un placer ser entrevistado por ustedes. Nací hace 38 años en la hermosa ciudad de Nápoles en Italia. Nápoles es una ciudad donde la música es un elemento central, en este lugar la música está en el ADN de las personas y se puede respirar la belleza de la cultura y la naturaleza. De niño me acerqué a la música y al piano gracias a mis padres, quienes entendieron el valor de la educación musical incluso sin ser músicos. Desde entonces siempre ha sido parte de mi vida y es una parte inseparable de mi ser. Estudié en el histórico Conservatorio S. Pietro a Majella en Nápoles y completé el curso con todas las notas. Tuve la suerte de estudiar con grandes maestros de la Escuela Napolitana de Piano. Luego completé mi capacitación para el perfil gerencial en el prestigioso ‘Accademia Teatro alla Scala di Milano’

Tell us about yourself, we want to meet you. How do you start the music? Where are you from?

It is a pleasure to be interviewed by you, I was born 38 years ago in the beautiful city of Naples in Italy. Naples is a city where music is a central element, in this place music is in people’s DNA and you can breathe the beauty of culture and nature. I approached music and piano as a child thanks to my parents, who understood the value of musical education even without being musicians. Since then it has always been part of my life and is an inseparable part of my being. I studied in the historic S. Pietro a Majella Conservatory in Naples and I completed the course with full marks I was lucky enough to study with great teachers of the Neapolitan Piano School. Then I completed my training for the managerial profile at the prestigious ‘Accademia Teatro alla Scala di  Milano’

Cuéntanos sobre tus proyectos artísticos.

Durante más de 10 años me uní a mi actividad de concierto también con la de gestión, mi deseo de crear nuevas oportunidades siempre me ha llevado más allá del sistema de música ya estructurado. A lo largo de los años, he actuado solo en Europa, en los EE. UU. Y en febrero de 2020 por primera vez en ASIA. También desarrollé proyectos dedicados a la ópera con una de las sopranos más conocidas de Italia, Romina Casucci, con quien también estoy casado. Romina ha actuado en grandes teatros de todo el mundo y es muy activa en cursos de capacitación avanzada dedicados a ‘Bel Canto Italiano’. Con nuestra organización creamos el Festival Mimas en la hermosa isla de Procida en Italia, donde se estableció la película ganadora del Oscar ‘Il Postino’. Todos los veranos damos la bienvenida a jóvenes músicos de todo el mundo y los conciertos siempre están agotados. En 2018 recibí el prestigioso “Premio Internazionale Cartagine” en Roma, la capital italiana, otorgado a las personalidades más importantes del sector de la música en Europa y en la región del Mediterráneo. Siempre he pensado en la innovación y en 2019 fundé la empresa ‘NOMEA’ con un gran empresario Antonio Romano con quien tengo una relación de gran amistad fraterna. Fue considerado una de las 100 principales compañías de marketing del mundo con su compañía SpinUp. NOMEA fue considerada entre las mejores Startups italianas y fue la anfitriona de los mejores artistas emergentes y tuvo una audiencia de más de 10,000 personas en los primeros meses de actividad. Para ayudar a los artistas jóvenes, creé un curso especial de branding de artistas para ayudar a construir y administrar estratégicamente su actividad artística, ha tenido un gran éxito con muchos miembros jóvenes.

Tell us about your artistic projects.

For more than 10 years I have joined my concert activity also with the managerial one, my desire to create new opportunities has always pushed me beyond the already structured music system. Over the years I have performed solo in Europe, in the USA and in February 2020 for the first time in ASIA. I also developed projects dedicated to opera with one of the best known sopranos in Italy, Romina Casucci, with whom I am also married. Romina has performed in large theaters all over the world and is very active in advanced training courses dedicated to ‘Bel Canto Italiano’. With our organization we created the Mimas Festival on the beautiful island of Procida in Italy, where the Oscar-winning film ‘Il Postino’ was set. Every summer we welcome young musicians from all over the world and the concerts are always sold out. In 2018 I was awarded the prestigious ‘Premio Internazionale Cartagine’ in Rome, the Italian capital, awarded to the most important personalities in the music sector in Europe and in the Mediterranean region. I have always thought about innovation and in 2019 I founded the company ‘NOMEA’ with a great businessman Antonio Romano with whom I have a relationship of great fraternal friendship. He was considered one of the top 100 marketing companies in the world with his SpinUp company. NOMEA was considered among the best Italian Start Up and hosted the best emerging artists and had an audience of over 10,000 people in the first months of activity. To help young performers I created a special Artist Branding course to help build and strategically manage their artistic activity, it has had great success with many young members.

¿Qué te lleva a formar parte de la organización del Neapolitan Masters Competition y cuál ha sido tu experiencia con este proyecto?

La ‘Neapolitan Masters Competition’ es un gran proyecto para mejorar la gran escuela de piano napolitana con una competencia de primer nivel. Soy el fundador y el director artístico junto con mi gran amigo y gran pianista Giuseppe Devastato, con quien compartimos muchos proyectos juntos. Pensamos en llevar a Nápoles al centro del mundo musical, tuvimos músicos de más de 30 naciones en la primera edición celebrada en el histórico Conservatorio de Nápoles S. Pietro a Majella, en 2019 desarrollamos la edición de ópera en el espléndido Teatro Bellini en Nápoles y en 2020 organizamos la edición asiática en Malasia en Kuala Lumpur en colaboración con la Universidad de Aswara y el circuito Trinity. Dado el tiempo de emergencia, hemos desarrollado una edición completamente en línea con los mejores desarrolladores de plataformas digitales para continuar brindando oportunidades y esperanzas a los jóvenes pianistas. Esta edición está organizada con la gran empresa Ernst Krause Berlin Piano, representada por Krause Musical Instrument (Yantai) Co., Ltd., que ofrecerá al ganador un piano fantástico.

What brings you to be part of the organization of the Neapolitan Masters Competition and what has been your experience with this project?

The ‘Neapolitan Masters Competition’ is a great project to enhance the great Neapolitan piano school with a first level competition. I am the founder and the Artistic Director with my great friend and great pianist Giuseppe Devastato, with whom we share many projects together. We thought of bringing Naples to the center of the Musical World, we had musicians from over 30 nations at the first edition held in the historic Conservatory of Naples S. Pietro a Majella, in 2019 we developed the opera edition in the splendid Bellini Theater in Naples and in 2020 we organized the Asian edition in Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with the University of Aswara and the Trinity circuit. Given the time of emergency, we have developed a completely online edition with the best digital platform developers to continue giving young pianists opportunities and hopes. This edition is organized with the large company Ernst Krause Berlin Piano represented by Krause Musical Instrument (Yantai) Co., Ltd. which will offer the winner a fantastic piano.

También eres parte de la European Music Academy ¿Cómo ha evolucionado la música y cómo se enseña en la Academia?

Fundamos la European Music Academy en el espléndido Palazzo Venezia Napoli, este Palazzo nació en la década de 1400 y está ubicado en el antiguo centro de la ciudad y tiene una espléndida sala de conciertos de estilo Pompeyo y uno de los últimos jardines de los 700 que aún está intacto. Tenemos cursos básicos con todos los instrumentos con maestros profesionales que siguen a los músicos desde cursos de capacitación hasta cursos de perfeccionamiento. De hecho, hay cursos de capacitación avanzada dedicados a la música de cámara, ópera, piano y branding de artistas. También estamos estructurando clases especiales para talentos menores de 10 años. Estamos orgullosos de haber llegado a un acuerdo con Ernst Krause Berlin Piano, representado por Krause Musical Instrument (Yantai) Co., Ltd. para estructurar este modelo didáctico también en China gracias a la intuición de el director Jimmy Wang con quien estamos trabajando para un gran proyecto educativo en China.

You are also part of the European Music Academy. How has music evolved and how is it taught at the Academy?

We founded the European Music Academy in the splendid Palazzo Venezia Napoli, this Palazzo was born in the 1400s and is located in the ancient center of the city and has a splendid Pompey-style concert hall and one of the last gardens of the 700 still intact. We have basic courses with all the instruments with professional Masters who follow the musicians from training to improvement courses. There are indeed advanced training courses dedicated to Chamber Music, Opera, Piano and Artist Brading. We are also structuring special classes for talents under 10. We are proud to have made an agreement with Ernst Krause Berlin Piano represented by Krause Musical Instrument (Yantai) Co., Ltd. to structure this didactic model also in China thanks to the intuition of the director Jimmy Wang with whom we are working for a great educational project in China.

¿Cuéntanos por qué invertir en proyectos culturales de esta magnitud.?

Es esencial invertir en proyectos de este tipo porque tienen una estructura totalmente empresarial con sistemas de autofinanciamiento, en un momento de gran crisis estos proyectos son un modelo a seguir para crear sistemas capaces de vivir a pesar de la crisis de fondos de Instituciones públicas .

Tell us why investing in cultural projects of this magnitude?

It is essential to invest in projects of this type because they have a totally entrepreneurial structure with self-financing systems, in a time of great crisis these projects are a model to follow in order to create systems capable of living despite the crisis of funds of public institutions .

¿Has tenido la oportunidad de subir a escenarios asiáticos?

Tuve el honor de subir al escenario asiático en febrero de 2020 por primera vez para la inauguración de la Neapolitan Masters Competition. Giuseppe Devastato y yo tocamos en la Universidad de Aswara, centro de excelencia en Malasia, estábamos contentos porque por primera vez en el mundo también se realizó una competencia en otro continente.

Have you had the opportunity to go on Asian stages?

I had the honor to go on the Asian stage in February 2020 for the first time for the inauguration of the Neapolitan Masters Competition. Giuseppe Devastato and I played at the University of Aswara, center of excellence in Malaysia, we were happy because for the first once in the world a competition was also held on another continent.

¿Cuáles son tus planes futuros?

El escenario futuro con esta crisis global es muy inestable, sin duda buscaremos la excelencia con cursos de capacitación avanzada también en modo en línea, estamos desarrollando plataformas digitales con la compañía NOMEA dedicada a concursos de música en línea con jurados de alto nivel y colaboraciones internacionales para mantener vidas Las motivaciones para los jóvenes músicos.

What are your future plans?

The future scenario with this global crisis is very unstable, we will certainly aim for excellence with advanced training courses also in online mode, we are developing digital platforms with the NOMEA company dedicated to online music competitions with high level juries and international collaborations to hold lives the motivations for young musicians.

Dale un mensaje a los músicos mexicanos que los inspire a lograr sus objetivos.

Un objetivo debe corresponder a una gran pasión capaz de hacernos enfrentar cualquier dificultad, si el mundo no es como lo queremos, transformemos con todas nuestras fuerzas. Creo que juntos llegamos muy lejos, así que encontramos amigos y socios con quienes podemos compartir sueños para lograr alimentar nuestra alma con música.

Give a message to Mexican musicians that inspires them to achieve their goals.

A goal must correspond to a great passion capable of making us face any difficulty, if the world is not as we want it, let’s transform it with all our strength. I think that together we go very far, so we find friends and partners with whom we can share dreams to achieve and we nourish our soul with Music.
